Cline

Connect Cline to MemPalace Cloud in two steps: add the remote MCP server, then paste the memory rules into Cline's instructions.

Cline (the VS Code agent extension) speaks MCP over streamable HTTP, so the connection is OAuth-based — no token to copy. The memory protocol lives in Cline's rules and applies every session.

Installation

Step 1: Add the MCP server

Open Cline → MCP Servers → Remote Servers → Add server:

  • Server name: mempalace-cloud
  • Server URL: https://api.mempalace.cloud/mcp

Or edit cline_mcp_settings.json (Cline → MCP Servers → Configure) directly:

The first time Cline calls a MemPalace tool, a browser opens for OAuth login. Cline shows the server with a green indicator once connected.

Step 2: Paste the memory rules

The full instruction block is hosted at:

Copy its content and paste it into:

Cline → Rules (or Settings → Custom Instructions)

The hosted block is kept in sync with the plugin and includes:

  • Discovery First — Cline reads the palace structure before writing
  • Palace Structure — how memories are organized into wings, rooms, and drawers
  • Save Decision Flow — a three-question flow to prevent flat dumps
  • Anti-patterns — no silent creation, no generic dumps

Verification

Open a chat in Cline and ask:

"What do you remember about this project?"

Cline should call mempalace_search or mempalace_kg_query before answering — you'll see the tool invocation in the tool-call pane.

Updates

When the plugin version bumps, re-copy the hosted block into your Cline rules to stay current. There is no automatic update path for pasted rules.

Troubleshooting

MCP server not connecting Verify the URL is exactly https://api.mempalace.cloud/mcp, then restart VS Code. Try https://api.mempalace.cloud/healthz in your browser — it should return {"status":"ok"}.

OAuth window never opens Trigger any mempalace_* tool manually from chat; disable popup blockers for the OAuth redirect.

Rules get truncated Cline limits the rules field length. Keep the instruction imperatives and shorten the explanatory prose. Whitelisting mempalace_* in Cline's tool-approval settings avoids per-call approval.

Memories captured but don't show up New memories land in your Inbox first. Items auto-approve after 24 hours if you don't review them.
