Windsurf

Connect Windsurf to MemPalace Cloud in two steps: add the MCP server, then paste the memory rules into Cascade's Global Rules.

Windsurf's agent (Cascade) speaks MCP over HTTP with OAuth — no token to copy. One quirk: Windsurf names the config field serverUrl, not url.

Prerequisites

Installation

Step 1: Add the MCP server

Windsurf → Settings → Cascade → MCP → Add server, or edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json directly (note serverUrl, not url):

Save and hit Refresh in the MCP panel. The first MemPalace tool call opens a browser for OAuth login. Cascade shows the server as connected once authorized.

Step 2: Paste the memory rules

Copy its content and paste it into:

Windsurf → Settings → Cascade → Global Rules (or .windsurfrules at the repo root for project-level rules)

The hosted block is kept in sync with the plugin and includes:

  • Discovery First — Cascade reads the palace structure before writing
  • Palace Structure — how memories are organized into wings, rooms, and drawers
  • Save Decision Flow — a three-question flow to prevent flat dumps
  • Anti-patterns — no silent creation, no generic dumps

Verification

Open a Cascade chat and ask:

"What do you remember about this codebase?"

Cascade should call a mempalace_* tool before answering.

Updates

When the plugin version bumps, re-copy the hosted block into your Global Rules to stay current. There is no automatic update path for pasted rules.

Troubleshooting

Tools don't appear Validate the JSON (Windsurf silently ignores an invalid config), confirm the field is serverUrl (not url), then hit Refresh in the MCP panel or restart Windsurf. Try https://api.mempalace.cloud/healthz in your browser — it should return {"status":"ok"}.

OAuth never triggers Invoke any mempalace_* tool from chat once; the consent screen opens in your default browser. Put mempalace_* on Cascade's allowed-tools list to avoid per-call approval in agent mode.

Don't confuse memories Windsurf's built-in "Memories" feature is local and separate — it doesn't replace MemPalace Cloud.

Memories captured but don't show up New memories land in your Inbox first. Items auto-approve after 24 hours if you don't review them.
