Zed

Connect Zed to MemPalace Cloud in two steps: add the MCP context server, then paste the memory rules into Zed's agent rules.

Zed's context_servers config is stdio-based, so the reliable way to reach our OAuth-protected HTTP endpoint is the mcp-remote proxy — it bridges the connection and handles the browser login for you. (Recent Zed builds can negotiate OAuth against a native HTTP URL, but the proxy is the dependable path here — stick with it to avoid a misconfigured connection.)

Prerequisites

Installation

Step 1: Add the context server

Edit ~/.config/zed/settings.json (macOS/Linux) or %APPDATA%\Zed\settings.json (Windows) and add:

On the first connection a browser opens for OAuth login. Zed reloads context servers automatically when you save settings.json; if the tools don't appear, run cmd/ctrl+shift+p → "zed: reload".

Step 2: Paste the memory rules

Copy its content and paste it into Zed's agent Rules (default rules file). Zed 0.156+ also supports per-project .zed/settings.json overrides for project-specific memory instructions.

The hosted block is kept in sync with the plugin and includes:

  • Discovery First — Zed reads the palace structure before writing
  • Palace Structure — how memories are organized into wings, rooms, and drawers
  • Save Decision Flow — a three-question flow to prevent flat dumps
  • Anti-patterns — no silent creation, no generic dumps

Verification

Open the agent panel and ask:

"What do you know about my recent work?"

You should see a mempalace_* tool call inline in the chat before the answer.

Updates

When the plugin version bumps, re-copy the hosted block into your Zed rules to stay current. There is no automatic update path for pasted rules.

Troubleshooting

Tools don't appear Check settings.json syntax (no trailing commas), confirm Node.js is installed (npx must be on PATH), then fully restart Zed. Logs: cmd/ctrl+shift+p → "zed: open log". Try https://api.mempalace.cloud/healthz in your browser — it should return {"status":"ok"}.

OAuth window never opened Delete the cached mcp-remote auth (rm -rf ~/.mcp-auth) and reconnect to retrigger the flow.

Memories captured but don't show up New memories land in your Inbox first. Items auto-approve after 24 hours if you don't review them.
